I realised I have a pomodoro timer on my smart watch so have been using it particularly for activities where I get into a flow and don't feel the effect of the exertion until later, like doing art. It's been useful so I'm glad I'm not the only one who's though of adapting it my watch can both adapt the length of the activity and the rest as you suggest.
